Davis Allen “Andover” armchairs, produced in Italy by Stendig, circa 1980. Solid beech frame with black lacquered finish, original textured seat upholstery, original finish, signed with Stendig label. These were introduced before Knoll bought the rights and reissued them as the Exeter chair. Davis Allen was educated at Brown University and the Yale University School of Architecture. He joined Skidmore, Owings & Merrill New York in 1950. Projects designed under his supervision include corporate headquarters for Merrill Lynch and Company and Georgia-Pacific.
